Archers Dominate Over the Weekend

In an action-packed weekend at the STLCC Tournament, St. Louis Community College showcased their volleyball prowess with several standout performances. Here's a roundup of their thrilling matches from September 14 and 15, 2024:

Match 1 vs. Oakton Community College: 

STLCC secured a solid 3-1 victory over Oakton Community College in an impressive display of offensive and defensive skills. The match highlighted STLCC's offensive strength, as they racked up 42 kills compared to Oakton's 28. Kylee Ball led the charge with 16 kills, supported by Sydney Green and Presley VanGaasbeek with 8 and 7 kills, respectively.

Defensively, STLCC also outperformed Oakton with 12 blocks to their 10. Divana Hearne anchored the defense with 5 blocks, while Sophia Wilson and Kylee Ball added 2 blocks each. 

Match 2 vs. Southeastern Illinois:

In a thrilling encounter, STLCC edged out Southeastern Illinois 3-2 in a dramatic five-set match. After losing the first set 25-17, STLCC rallied to win the next two sets, 25-23 and 25-20. Southeastern Illinois won the fourth set 25-20, forcing a decisive fifth set, which STLCC won 15-12. Sydney Green was instrumental with 14 kills, and Sophia Wilson added 8 kills with a hitting percentage of .538. Ava Chase's 45 assists played a crucial role in the victory. 

Match 3 vs. Prairie State College: 

The following day, STLCC continued their winning streak with a decisive 3-0 win against Prairie State College. The set scores were 25-15, 25-16, and 25-18. STLCC's offense was in top form, totaling 32 kills with a hitting percentage of .265. Kylee Ball led the team with 12 kills, while Sydney Green added 9. Ava Chase contributed significantly with 15 assists and 5 service aces. 

Match 4 vs. Southwestern Illinois:

In a contrasting outcome later in the day, STLCC faced a tough opponent in Southwestern Illinois and fell in straight sets, 25-11, 25-10, and 25-19. STLCC struggled to find their rhythm, despite Sydney Green's 8 kills and Kylee Ball's 9. Southwestern Illinois's strong performance on both ends of the court proved too much for STLCC to handle.

Overall, STLCC's performances at the tournament demonstrated their strength and versatility. Their ability to both dominate and adapt in different scenarios will serve them well as they continue their season.
