Archers Struggle Continues on the Court

In a challenging series of matches over the weekend at the Showdown at the Wabash Tournament at the VU Recreation Center in Vincennes, Indiana, St. Louis Community College faced tough opponents but unfortunately could not secure a win.

In their first match against Calhoun Community College, the Archers fell 3-0, with final scores of 28-26, 25-11, and 25-16. Calhoun's efficient attack, boasting a .256 kill percentage, outmatched St. Louis Community's .066. Standout players for Calhoun included Maddie Schwabe, Jakaya Smith, Claire Holt, and Shelby Hill, who led their team to a convincing victory. Despite efforts from Sydney Green, Presley VanGaasbeek, and Kylee Ball, the Archers couldn't keep up with Calhoun's offensive and defensive prowess.

Later that day, St. Louis Community College took on Wabash Valley College at the VU Recreation Center in Vincennes, Indiana. Despite taking the first set 25-17, the Archers ultimately lost the match 3-1, as Wabash Valley rallied to take the next three sets (25-17, 25-18, 25-20). Sydney Green led the Archers with 14 kills, while Ahnalynn Hays had 21 digs. Wabash Valley's Kathryn Blake and Cristina Felts combined for 24 kills, with Alyssa Wilke adding 26 assists to secure the win.

The struggles continued as the Archers faced Vincennes University, losing in straight sets with scores of 25-19, 25-13, and 25-18. Vincennes was led by Elisa Dalla Pozza with 9 kills and a .571 hitting percentage, and Libby Mehringer contributed 14 assists and 5 service aces. St. Louis Community College's Sydney Green was the top performer, finishing with 5 kills and 4 service aces.

Later that day, St. Louis Community took on Edison State, who claimed a 3-0 victory (25-21, 25-13, 25-22). Presley VanGaasbeek led the Archers with 11 kills, while Sydney Green added 9 kills and 12 points. Edison State's Brooklyn Bourne dominated the game with 13 kills and 16.5 points, with setter Emma Luedeke adding 27 assists to lead her team to victory.

Despite the losses, St. Louis Community College showed resilience throughout the weekend, with players like Sydney Green and Presley VanGaasbeek delivering notable performances. The Archers will look to regroup and repair for their October 9th match against Region 16 opponent East Central College.
