Eight Different Archers Earn Points in 8-1 Victory

A tough early season schedule has helped mold the St. Louis Community College women's soccer team as it enters Region 16 play and the final push of the regular season, and Thursday afternoon the Lady Archers improved to 1-0-0 in Region play, as they defeated MCC-Maple Woods 8-1 on the Flo Valley campus.  There was no delay in lighting up the scoreboard as Alexa Griffonetti took a perfect pass from Grace vanHoornbeek in front of the net, and found the back of the net in second minute of the match, and the Archers never looked back.  vanHoornbeek, who has been a force to keep out of the box scores the past two weeks, netted a goal of her own six minutes later when she got some help from Rebecca Bass to push the lead to 2-0 and the quick strike offense did not wait long to make it 3-0 as Sam Amezcua assisted on an Ellie Wallace goal.  During the thirtieth minute, Bass hammered a ball home of an assist from Chloe Bowen and Amezcua scored eleven minutes later, on quite possibly the prettiest goal of the year, as Jessica Nast played a ball just inside mid-field into the box that Kate Ohler headed to the foot of Amezcua, giving the Archers a 5-0 lead at the half.

The Monarchs scored in the fifty-second minute to cut the lead to 5-1, but Griffonetti beat the defense up the field for her second goal of the match, as Wallace notched the assist.  Ohler hammered a ball home five minutes later, as vanHoornbeek assisted, extending the lead to 7-1 and vanHoornbeek wrapped the scoring up in the sixty-ninth minute, as she scored her ninth goal of the year, with help from Bowen.  Eight different Archers earned at least one point in the match, as the Archers move to 6-5-0 on the year, including winning three matches in a row and five of their previous six matches.

STLCC returns to action on Tuesday afternoon, with a 4:00 pm Region 16 match at St. Charles Community College.
