Archers Score Half a Dozen in Shutout Over Heartland

The St. Louis Community College Women's Soccer team has had some unfortunate luck in the first three matches of the season against tough competition, and Saturday they took their frustrations out against Heartland Community College in a 6-0 victory.  The Archers got forty-six shots off, including twenty-seven on goal, while limiting the Hawks to one just one shot on the afternoon and got goals from six different players in the win.

In the twenty-fifth minute, the Archers got a goal from Alexa Griffonetti, assisted by Olivia Gonzalez, to open the scoring on the day.  Sixteen minutes later, Grace vanHoornbeek scored from outside the box off an assist from Madison Vickery to give the Archers a 2-0 lead at the half.  The second half brought on more opportunities and STLCC took full advantage as Sam Amezuca opened the second half scoring in the fifty-second minute with an unassisted goal and Haylie Woodard scored eight minutes later on a perfect assist from Rebecca Bass making the score 4-0.  In the seventy-fifth minute, Michalla Rohrer found herself wide open in front of the net and Griffonetti fed her the ball from the right side to push the lead to 5-0.  Six minutes later Bass found the back of the net off an Ellie Wallace pass to give the Archers half a dozen.

Libby Modde recorded her first shutout off the season, as the defense dominated the Hawks offensive efforts.  The Archers improve to 1-3 on the season and return to action on Monday afternoon with a 2:00 pm start against thirteenth ranked Lewis & Clark.  The match will be played as the opener of a women's and men's doubleheader on the Florissant Valley campus.
