Injury-plagued Archers fall to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M

Any game against the now 6-0 Northeastern Oklahoma A&M women’s soccer team would have been challenging, but attempting do it with a short bench made Tuesday even more challenging for STLCC. The Archers fell behind 3-0 in the first half and never recovered, dropping their fourth consecutive game, 5-0. The loss dropped the Archers to 2-4 overall.

The Archers found themselves in a difficult spot midway through the first half, when sophomore Brigid McInerney was forced from the game due to injury. STLCC began the game with a short bench, which only compounded the team’s depth troubles.

“We have one sub right now, and a number of the players who are playing aren’t healthy,” Archers head coach Erin Hesselbach said. “Injuries are killing us right now, and the way the schedule is, with not many off days, it’s obviously hurting us right now.”

Northeastern Oklahoma received a pair of goals from sophomore forward Paige Logsdon, who doubled her season total. Amanda Hughes, who played the first half in goal for the Archers, received the loss, despite registering seven saves before yielding to sophomore Paige Theby.

The Archers will return to action on Thursday, when they host Metropolitan Community College-Maple Woods in the third of five consecutive home games. Game time is 2:30 pm.
