Despite a season that included a few more bumps in the road than in years past, the 2014 women's soccer season was not without a number of stellar individual performances.
A year that was highlighted by transition, youth and adversity concluded in recognition of excellence, as three Archer women were named to Region XVI's first team.
Sophomore Hannah Wisnewski and freshmen Sammie Weaver and Emily Fox were nominated for their productive 2014 seasons. In what could be a positive indicator for next season, the Archers were the only team in the four-member region to have multiple freshmen named to the All-Region first team. Only four total freshmen were named among the 11-player first team.
Weaver, who played her first season with the Archers' soccer program after spending last year on the volleyball court, split time between the sweeper and goalie positions. Weaver finished the year with 126 saves, which ranked second in the region behind St. Charles Community College's Katie Martin.
Wisnewski, a lone holdover from the 2013 Archers, provided leadership and a defensive-minded approach to the midfield position. Wisnewski started in each of her 11 appearances during the 2014 season.
In her first collegiate season, Fox quickly established herself as the Archers' premier offensive threat, as well as one of the most dangerous scorers in the region. The freshman forward paced the Archers with four goals and an assist for a team-leading nine points. Perhaps most indicative of her value to the team while in the offensive third of the field, Fox accounted for 22 of the Archers' 56 shots on goal in 2014.
This marks the third straight season that three or more Archers have been first-team all-region selections.
