Archers Defeat NCMC, Claim #1 Seed For Region XVI Tournament

The STLCC women's basketball team needed a win over North Central Missouri College on Saturday, February 22 to receive the #1 seed and a bye in the first round of the upcoming Region XVI Tournament.   In Saturday's contest, the Archers used a big first quarter to take a 42-35 lead into halftime.  The second half saw lots of back and forth action, but STLCC was able to hold on for a 79-67 win.

The Archers got big contributions offensively from multiple individuals.  Scoring in double figures for STLCC were Kyla Richardson (21 points), Kierra Winkeler (18 points), Ronne'zja Elliott (16 points), and Janet Garrett (13 points).  Kierra Winkeler also pulled down 10 rebounds to collect a double-double.  Ashalei Hughes recorded nine rebounds of her own. 

With Saturday's win, the Archers improved to 13-13 overall and 3-1 in Region XVI play.  STLCC will now head into the upcoming Region XVI Tournament as the #1 seed.  The Archers will take on the winner of the semifinal game between Metropolitan CC and North Central Missouri College for the Region XVI Championship.  The championship game will be played at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO on Saturday, February 29 at 4:00pm.
