The STLCC women's basketball team opened 2019 with victories against Rend Lake College on Thursday, January 3 and Crowder College on Saturday, January 5.
On Thursday, the Lady Archers used stingy defense against Rend Lake to take a 45-17 lead into halftime before going on the defeat the Lady Warriors by a score of 88-37. STLCC got double figure scoring from Simone Rodney (16 points), Kyleigh Vaught (14 points), and Maia Marshall (12 points).
The Lady Archers faced a stiff test against NJCAA D1 opponent Crowder College on Saturday, January 5 in Neosho, MO. STLCC took an eight point lead into halftime and was able to hold on for a 70-59 win aginst the Roughriders. Scoring in double figures for the Lady Archers were Kyleigh Vaught (18 points), Caprice Hairston (16 points), and Ronne'zja Elliott (13 points). Simone Rodney contributed with a team leading eight rebounds and Hairston collected seven rebounds of her own in the road victory.
With the two wins, STLCC moves to 11-4 overall and the team currently sits at 2-1 in MCCAC play. The Lady Archers will be back in action on Tuesday, January 8, when they travel to Moberly, MO to take on Moberly Area CC in a conference matchup at 5:30pm.
