Archers Secure Spot in National Tournament with 77-56 Win

The St. Louis Community College Lady Archers started off slow, but in typical Lady Archer form, they shook off the nerves and ran past Arkansas St. Mid-South 77-56 to capture the District P championship on Saturday afternoon on the Forest Park campus.  Both teams went scoreless for the first 5:24 seconds of the game, until the Lady Archers hit back to back three pointers from Shamara Glover and Shamiah Oliver to take a 6-0 lead.  The lady Greyhounds then scored the next 12 points to close out the first quarter, including hitting a three quarter court shot at the buzzer to take a 12-6 lead.  The second quarter saw the Archers grab some footing and make a run by outscoring ASU Mid-South 20-13 and take a 26-25 lead into the locker room.

The third quarter was a typical Archers third quarter, as they outscored Mid-South 28-14 behind the efforts of freshmen Erika Harvey and Chrishana Wilson who put the team on their backs and became the aggressors to take a 54-39 lead into the final frame.  The Archers did not give in during the 4th quarter and controlled the game the rest of the way out as Ellisha Davis, Erica Waeltermann and Shamara Glover handled the pressure like seasoned veterans.

Three Lady Archers, (Harvey, Glover and Wilson) led the way with 15 points each, while Ellisha Davis added 14 points and 5 assists.  Wilson pulled down a St. Louis Community College record 25 rebounds during the game, 21 on the defensive glass.  The Archers held Mid-South to 26.6 percent from the field and added 11 steals on the defensive end.

The Archers improve to 23-8 on the season and now wait to see who their first game will be at the NJCAA D2 National Tournament.  The tournament will be held March 21st-25th in Harrison, AR on the campus of Northern Arkansas College.
