STLCC women win thriller to claim Region XVI title

Archers rally to win Region XVI tournament

With a basket with just eight seconds remaining in regulation, St. Louis Community College secured its first Region XVI championship since 2012-13 with a 72-71 win over MCC-Penn Valley. The Archers’ road to the regional title was a circuitous one, as the team opened the season 2-8 before winning 14 of the next 19 games.

STLCC went undefeated within the region, finishing a perfect 10-0, including the Region XVI tournament. However, the outcomes within the tournament could not have been closer. The Archers’ two victories over North Central and Penn Valley in the tourney came by a combined three points.

The win advanced STLCC to the District P playoff game on March 5 at STLCC-Forest Park. This is the third Region XVI championship for the Archers since the 2010-11 season, and the fourth overall for head coach Shelly Ethridge.
