The first half of the 2015-16 season has been a challenging one for St. Louis Community College’s women’s basketball team, but the way in which the Archers were able to ring in the new year has given considerable reason for optimism.
In her Archers debut, guard Shiana Carrington contributed a game-high 22 points in a 78-53 win at Kaskaskia Community College. The win marked the first time this season the Archers (4-8) have won consecutive games, and also was the team’s largest margin of victory this year.
The addition of Carrington comes at a time when the Archers have gradually gotten healthy after suffering multiple early-season injuries. Those setbacks contributed to what was at one time a 2-8 start, the worst 10-game start under a Shelly Ethridge-coached team at STLCC.
A host of players have carried the load in the absence of projected starters, most recently sophomore forward Abby Holtkamp. The production of Carrington creates a level of depth entering 2016 that the Archers have not enjoyed at any previous point this season.
