Carrington named third team All-American

For those who followed St. Louis Community College’s women’s basketball season closely, there was little doubt when the season took a significant turn for the better. That would be during the first week of January, when sophomore guard Shiana Carrington joined the Archers mid-season.

This week, Carrington’s impact was clear beyond those immediately surrounding STLCC, as she was named an NJCAA third-team All-American.

In seventeen games, including 16 starts, Carrington led the Archers with 20.6 points per game, while shooting 49 percent from the field. Carrington’s slashing, aggressive offensive approach helped the Archers make a second-half surge, as they won 13 of their final 17 games, en route to a Region XVI championship. Carrington led the way in the Region XVI championship game, tallying a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds, both game-highs, to guide the Archers to a 72-71 win over MCC-Penn Valley.

Carrington’s selection gives the Archers consecutive years with an NJCAA All-American. Deborah Holcomb was named a first-teamer at the conclusion of the 2014-15 season.
