Tremendous Run Ends At National Tournament For Archers

The STLCC softball team recently participated in the NJCAA DII National Softball Championship in Clinton, MS.  After winning 19 straight games, the Archers fell in game one of the tournament to Sinclair CC (OH).  Sinclair jumped on top early, tallying three runs in the top of the first inning and later scored four runs in the 4th inning, leading to an 8-1 opening round loss for STLCC.  Offensively, Kacy Bergfeld, Tori Siebum, and Haley Schmutz all collected multiple hits in the loss.  Starter Sarah Shepard took the loss in the circle, lasting three innings and allowing three earned runs.  Sophia Koesterer pitched the remaining four innings, allowing just one earned run.

The loss against Sinclair sent the Archers into the elimination bracket, where they would face off against Cuyahoga CC (OH).  STLCC was able to get out to an early lead against Cuyahoga, leading 2-0 after one inning.  The lead would not last long though, as Cuyahoga was able to score three runs in the top of the second inning and went on to defeat the Archers by a score of 9-4.  Tallying multiple hits for STLCC were Jennifer Luebbert and Kacy BergfeldSidney Litviak took the loss in the circle, throwing three and one third innings and allowing three earned runs in relief of starter Hannah MarquardtSophia Koesterer threw the final two frames, allowing only one run. 

STLCC's incredible season came to an end with the loss to Cuyahoga CC.  The Archers finished the 2019 season with a record of 40-6.  Some of the many accomplishments in 2019 include a Region XVI Championship, a District P Championship, and a Missouri Community College Athletic Conference (MCCAC) Championship.  The MCCAC Championship was the first ever by a DII junior college.  STLCC also held the #6 spot in the last NJCAA DII Softball Poll.
