STLCC Softball Captures Region XVI Title

STLCC Softball Captures Region XVI Title

With an 8-0 win against Mineral Area College on Monday, May 6, the STLCC softball team claimed the Region XVI Championship for the first time since STLCC consolidated its athletic department.

Before reaching the tournament final, the Archers defeated East Central College on Sunday, May 5 by a score of 3-1.  In Sunday's game, STLCC received quality pitching from Sarah Shepard and Sidney Litviak.  Shepard was credited with the win on Sunday, lasting five and one third innings and only allowing one run on five hits.  Litviak got the save in relief against the Falcolns, pitching one and two thirds innings without allowing a hit.  Offensively, the Archers got multi-hit performances from Jennifer Luebbert and Miranda Hudson.  Driving in runs for STLCC were Hudson, Abby Lavely, and Breanna Potthast

The win against East Central advanced St. Louis to the championship game on Monday against Mineral Area.  The Archers wasted no time offensively on Monday, crossing the plate five times in the first inning.  The five run lead would be all STLCC would need, as they cruised to an 8-0 win to capture the region title.  Sidney Litviak and Miranda Hudson led the team's offense against the Cardinals, collecting three hits each.  Hudson also drove in three of STLCC's eight runs in the game.  Earning her 12th win of the season in the circle was sophomore Hannah Marquardt.  Marquardt threw a complete game for the Archers and carried a perfect game into the sixth inning before allowing a hit.

With the championship victory on Monday, STLCC's overall record improved to an impressive 38-4 on the season.  The Archers have now won the Region XVI Championship and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference Championship.  The team will now await the results of the Region XXIV Tournament in Illinois.  The Region XXIV runner-up will host the Archers in the best-of-three District P Tournament on Thursday, May 16 and Friday, May 17.  The STLCC softball team is currently ranked 7th in the nation.
