Archers Sweep East Central, Claim First Ever Conference Championship

 

With a pair of wins against East Central College on Wednesday, April 17, the 13th ranked STLCC softball team clinched the Missouri Community College Athletic Conference Championship for the first time in program history.  The conference championship is also the first by any NJCAA DII program in conference history for women's softball.  

In game one against ECC, the Archers' offense got into a rhythm early and propelled the team to a 13-2 victory.  STLCC got multi-hit performances from Kacy Bergfeld, Haley Schmutz, Abby Lavely, Miranda Hudson, and Molly DarnerBreanna Potthast, Miranda Hudson, and Molly Darner each had home runs for the Archers.  Allison Klaus picked up the win on the mound, lasting five innings and only allowing one earned run.  Klaus stuck out seven Falcolns and only allowed three free passes to improve to 3-0 on the season.

A four-run first inning in game two helped the Archers to an 11-5 win in game two over the Falcons. Collecting multiple hits for STLCC were Kacy Bergfeld, Tori Siebum, Haley Schmutz, Sidney Litviak, and Miranda HudsonSophia Koesterer got the win for the Archers in the circle, going three and one third innings and only allowing one earned run.  The win was Sophia's 6th of the season. 

With the wins on over East Central, the Archers improve to 30-4 overall, 15-1 in MCCAC play, and 8-0 in Region XVI play.  STLCC is ranked #13 in the latest NJCAA poll and will begin the final week of the regular season by hosting Central Methodist University JV on Monday, April 22.  Monday's double-header will begin at 1:00pm.
