Softball Splits With Three Rivers, Sweeps Lewis & Clark

The STLCC softball team is coming off of a busy week.  On Tuesday, April 9, the Archers hosted #20 Three Rivers College in a big conference double-header.  In game one, the Raiders of Three Rivers jumped ahead early and cruised to a 9-5 win over the Archers.  Sarah Shepard allowed six unearned runs over five innings.  Breanna Potthast drove in two runs on two hits and Miranda Hudson also drove in a pair on one hit in the defeat.

STLCC fared much better in game two, collecting a big 5-2 victory.  Sophomore Hannah Marquardt lasted six strong innings on the mound in game two, only allowing one earned run and Sidney Litviak picked up the save with a scoreless seventh inning.  Collecting multiple hits in the win were Abby Lavely, Miranda Hudson, and Haley Schmutz.

On Wednesday, April 10, STLCC came away with two more big win against Lewis & Clark CC.  In game one, the score was tied at one in the fifth inning, when Haley Schmutz connected for a solo home run to put the Archers in front.  That was all that the STLCC pitching staff would need to secure a victory.  Sarah Shepard got the start for the Archers on the mound, lasting four and two thirds innings and allowing one run.  Sidney Litviak collected the win in relief, going two and one third scoreless innings.

Game two was dominated on the mound by both teams' starters.  STLCC scored in the first inning on an RBI single by Sidney Litviak.  That run was all the starter Hannah Marquardt would need, as she picked up her 10th win of the season with a complete game shutout on the mound.

With the wins against Lewis and Clark, STLCC moves to 24-4 overall and 9-1 in MCCAC play.  The Archers are also now tied for first place in the conference with Three Rivers and are also ranked #20 in the latest NJCAA DII Softball poll.  STLCC will be back in action when they host Region XVI opponent Mineral Area College on Saturday, April 13 for a double-header beginning at 1:00pm.
