Archers Begin Conference Play 4-0

The STLCC softball team is coming off a big week in which they went 4-0 against MCCAC opponents.  On Tuesday, March 26, the Archers traveled to Union, MO and defeated East Central College by scores of 6-2 and 21-4.  On Thursday, March 28, STLCC hosted and swept Jefferson College, winning by scores of 5-3 and 6-4.

In game one of the double-header against East Central, STLCC got home runs from Haley Schmutz and Kacy Bergfeld and multi hit games from Jennifer Luebbert, Tori Siebum, and Miranda HudsonSarah Shepard got the win on the mound for the Archers, throwing six innings and only allowing two unearned runs.  Sidney Litviak got the save in releif, going one inning and striking out two.

In game two against East Central, the STLCC offense got things going early, scoring 11 runs in the first Inning.  Collecting multiple hits in the contest were Jennifer Luebbert, Tori Siebum, Miranda Hudson, Kacy Bergfeld, Haley Schmutz, and Breanna Potthast.  Hitting home runs for the Archers in game two were Kacy Bergfeld, Tori Siebum (2), Sidney Litviak, Breanna Potthast, and Abby LavelySophia Koesterer got the win on the mound for STLCC, lasting three innings and allowing only two earned runs.

In Thursday's sweep of Jefferson College, the Archers got a two hit performance at the plate from Breanna Potthast and Haley Schmutz in game one.  Potthast's day included a home run, double, and three RBI.  Sarah Shepard got the complete game win, only allowing three runs on five hits.  In game two, STLCC was paced offensively by Kacy Bergfeld, who collected three hits, including at double and an RBI.  Alison Klaus got the win on the mound, only allowing one run on two hits over four innings.  

With the big week, STLCC impoved to 13-3 overall, 4-0 in MCCAC play, and 2-0 in Region XVI play.  The Archers will be back in action on Tuesday, April 2 when they travel to Cottleville, MO to take on St. Charles CC in a conference double-header beginning at 2:00pm.
