Archers Sweep SWIC Using All Phases of the Game

The St. Louis Community College softball team had to wait a week to open the 2017 season, but the wait was worth it, as the Archers grabbed a sweep on Wednesday afternoon over SWIC winning game 1, 15-0 and game 2, 9-1.  The Archers played all three phases of the game well, as they allowed only 1 earned run on the day and collected 24 runs and 29 hits in the doubleheader.

Game 1

Freshman Kyla Blankenship picked up the win, going 5 innings, allowing 0 runs, 2 hits while punching out 8 Blue Storm hitters.  Offensively, Liz Miller led the way by going 3-3 at the plate, scored 2 runs and had 2 rbi.  Blankenship didn't just focus on the pitching, as she collected 2 hits, including a bases loaded triple to give her 4 rbi in the win.  Madison Sundling also collected 2 hits, including a triple and 3 rbi, while Markie McDonald also had 2 hits in game 1.  

Game 2

In game 2, the offense stayed hot from the outset, as the Archers scored 6 runs in the first inning, 3 of which came on a Sundling 3 run homerun, her first of the season.  Shekinah Griffith set the pace at the top of the order collected 4 hits in game 2, scoring 2 runs and driving in a run as well.  Anna Counts was a perfect 3-3 from the plate, while Miller, Mary Kate Raftery and Haley Frnaklin each had 2 hits, with Raftery driving in 2 runs on a triple to right center.   Freshman Katy Moore got the start in the circle for the Archers and threw 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits and 2 strikeouts, while Kourtney Timper pitched a perfect 6th inning.
