Archers Softball Set to Open 2017 Season

The St. Louis Community College softball is set to open the 2017 season on Wednesday afternoon on the Meramec campus, and while the Archers will be young, they have the ability to be more athletic and more offensive than a year ago.

The Archers have only two sophomore on the roster, but those Liz Miller and Madison Sundling return with a lot of experience and success from last season.  Defensively, look for the Archers to be solid as the outfield has some speed in Sundling, Haley Franklin and Shekinah Griffith.  The infield will be anchored by middle infielders Anna Counts and Miller, both bring up the level of athleticism on defense.

The Archers seem to be a quicker group this year, as the lefthanded hitting Griffith has the ability to impact the game on the bases.  Sundling returns to the middle of the lineup after hitting .444 last year, including 8 doubles, 2 triples, 6 home runs and 23 RBI.  Miller hit .280 last year with 7 doubles, 3 triples, 38 RBI and 14 stolen bases.

In the circle, the Archers will be led by Kyla Blankenship, who brings with her muliple pitchers that can be used in any count.

Taking over as the skipper this year, is Kristi Swiderski, who is no stranger to St. Louis softball. Coach Swiderski notes "that this is a very special group of ladies, full of character and determination."
