Archers Sweep Morthland on Sophomore Day

Sophomore day was a opportunity to celebrate two sophomores who have played a large part in turning around the softball program the past two years. Madison Sundling and Liz Miller have gone 62-31 over the past two years, including 35-8 this year as the Archers are currently ranked 16th in the latest NJCAA national rankings.  On top of celebrating Sundling and Miller, the Archers also got to celebrate earning another sweep, winning game 1, 7-1 and the nightcap 8-0 in five innings, and they ran their winning streak to eleven games heading into the Region 16 tournament.  

Game 1

Kyla Blankenship earned her 20th win of the season as she pitched 7 innings, allowed 0 earned runs and gathered 6 strikeouts.  Mary Kate Raftery grabbed 3 hits, drove in 2 runs and stole 3 bases in the win while Shekinah Griffith drove in a pair of runs and Miller scored 3 runs.  Sarah Goers had a double and scored twice as well.

Game 2

Kourtney Timper improved to 7-1 on the year as she threw 4 1/3 innings while not allowing a run and giving up only 2 hits.  Raftery once again had a big game at the plate, collecting 3 more hits, including a double and a triple while driving in 4 runs.  Miller and Goers each had 2 hits including Miller scoring scoring 2 runs and Goers scoring 3 times.  Sundling, Miller, and Goers each doubled in the 5 inning win, while Haley Fisher tripled.  

The Archers are now 35-8 on the year and start Region 16 tournament play at 10:00 am on Friday at Cottey College in Nevada, MO.  The tournament is a double elimination tournament and the Archers, are the number one seed, open play vs. the host Cottey College.
