The Lady Archers softball team got their first sunny day of the week on Saturday during a Region 16 and MCCAC matchup with Mineral Area College at Meramec as the two teams split a doubleheader with STLCC winning the opener 11-1 in five innings and Mineral getting a comeback victory 6-5 in eight innings in the nightcap.
Game 1
Anna Counts collected 3 hits, scored 2 runs and had 2 rbi to lead the Archers at the plate, while Shekinah Griffith and Madison Sundling each collected 2 hits, and scored 2 runs. Griffith added a double, while Sundling blasted a 2 run home run in the first inning to put the Archers up for good. Eva Rasey drove in 2 runs with a single through the middle. Kyla Blankenship moved to 10-1 on the season by throwing 5 innings and allowing 1 run.
Game 2
The Lady Archers fought back from a 2-1 hole by scoring four runs in the bottom of the 6th innings, but Mineral Area scored three unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game a five and force extra innings. Mineral scored a run in the top of the eigth inning and Archers stranded the tieing run on second in the bottom of the eight.
Haley Fisher had 3 hits for the Archers, while Sundling had 2 hits, including her seventh home run of the year, a solo shot in the sixth that tied the game a 2-2 at the time. Katy Moore threw 6 innings allowing 2 runs for the no decision and Blankenship tossed 2 innings allowing 1 earned run to fall to 10-2 on the year.
The Archers are now 18-4 on the year and return to action on Sunday afternoon at Meramec when they host St. Charles Community College, first pitch is slated for 1:00 pm.
