After an hour and fifteen minute rain delay, Joey Reeves made quick work of the Mineral Area offense as the Archers took game one of the doubleheader 10-0, Mineral bounced back and hit a 3 run walk off home run to win game 2, 6-4.
Game 1
After walking the first two hitters in the bottom of the first inning, Reeves retired the Cardinals in order for the remainder of the game as he pitched 5 innings and striking out 6 hitters to collect the no-hitter. The Archers scored 9 runs in the top of the 4th inning to put the game out of reach. Neil Fischer, Kyle Stevens and Chase Jones each collected 2 hits with each of had a double, with Fischer doubling twice. Stevens drove in 3 runs, while Fischer and Jack Kane each drove in 2 runs. Reeves improved to 5-3 on the year.
Game 2
The nightcap of the doubleheader looked promising until two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, when Mineral Area hit a two out walk off three run home run to give the Cardinals a 6-4 win and evened up the series. Fischer had 2 hits, including a double and 2 rbi's, while Colton Schilly scored 2 runs, Kane and Stevens each doubled as well for the Archers. Connor Cline threw 5.2 innings while allowing 2 earned runs and struck out four hitters in taking a no decision.
The two teams will attempt to complete the four game series on Saturday at Meramec, with first pitch slated for 1:00 pm.
