#6 Archers Go 2-1 To Open Season

The STLCC men's soccer team began their 2019 season with a busy week.  On Thursday, August 22, the Archers played host to Southwestern Illinois College at Creve Coeur Park.  In Thursday's match, STLCC was not able to find the back of the net in the first half of play.  In the second half, the Archers got goals from Dennys Vasquez (assisted by Reece Kral), Brandon Burton (assisted by Jack Leeming) and Damani Henderson (assisted by Zach Klevorn).  Liam Gibbs recorded three saves to collect his first win and shutout of the season for STLCC.

 

The Archers had a quick turnaround following Thursday's win, hosting Allen County CC on Friday, August 23.  On Friday, STLCC struggled to get anything going offensively.  The match went to double overtime before Allen County found the back of the next at 107:00, handing the Archers their first loss of 2019.  Sophomore goaltender Liam Gibbs made four saves in the match.

 

On Sunday, August 25, STLCC wrapped up their busy opening week by hosting Lincoln Land CC.  Sunday's match was knotted up until Joe Ruane found the back of the net at 44:00 on a PK.  The Archers got things going offensively in the second half, with goals from Kevin Ovalle (assisted by Reece Kral), Brandon Burton (assisted by Kevin Ovalle & Reece Kral), Mickel Ravello (assisted by Dennys Vasquez) and Lesandro Jardim (unassisted).  Liam Gibbs stopped one shot and collected his second win and shutout of the season in the 5-0 win.

 

Sunday's win brought the Archers' record to 2-1 on the season.  The team will be back in action on Wednesday, August 28, when they host Southeastern CC for a 4:00pm match at Flo Valley.
