Archers Win Region XVI Championship

The STLCC men's soccer team won their third consecutive Region XVI Championship by defeating Crowder College 2-1 on Saturday, October 29.  Brandon Burton gave to Archers a 1-0 lead on a setup by Alem Sabic with only one second remaining in the first half.  Noah Vezzu scored at 69:00 to give STLCC a commanding 2-0 lead in the second half.  Crowder was able to rally with time running out, scoring on a PK at 81:00 to cut the Archer lead to 2-1, but STLCC was able to hold off a late surge by the Roughriders to secure the championship.  Liam Gibbs made five saves in the winning effort.

With Saturday's win, the Archers are one win away from their second consecutive trip to the NJCAA National Soccer Tournament.  Illinois Central College will travel to STLCC - Florissant Valley to take on the Archers for the Central District Championship on Saturday, November 3 at 1:00pm.  The winner of Saturday's match will advance to the national tournament in Daytona Beach, Florida.  STLCC's record now sits at 17-3.
