Du Toit Leads Archers Past State Fair

The St. Louis Community College Men's Soccer team opened up the 2016 regular season on the Meramec campus Thursday afternoon with a 5-0 victory over State Fair Community College.  Once the Archers settled into the flow of the game, it was hard to determine what was hotter, the temperature or the potent Archers offense.

Chidera Ude put STLCC on the scoreboard with a goal at the 18:13 mark of the first half on an assist from Adam Du Toit.  Seven minutes later, Michael York scored on a hustle play in which he lofted the ball over the Roadrunner goalkeeper to give the Archers some breathing room.  Du Toit scored on a penalty kick in the second half and also added another assist on a goal from Michael Maldonado, to finish the day with a goal and two assists.  Dion Lewis-Kirwan scored on an acrobatic header of a cross from Casey Bartlett-Scott.  Kallum Lunn notched the shutout in his first career start for the Archers, saving five shots in the process.

The Archers played twenty three players in the season opener, Coach Tim Mosby stated that "our depth showed today while playing in the heat (temperatured reached the mid 90's) and that allowed us to keep playing aggresively."

The Archers are 1-0 on the young season, and will play Monday August 29th vs. Kankakee Community College on the Meramec campus at 4:30 pm.

Duffy's play of the match: Michael York's hustle goal that was perfectly placed over the attacking goal keeper to give the Archers some breathing room.
