Men's soccer completes perfect weekend, improves to 6-1

There are few NJCAA teams in the region performing better in the week’s first month than the men’s soccer team at St. Louis Community College. The Archers completed a road sweep through Illinois over the weekend, defeating Lincoln Land Community College 3-2 on Sunday, a day after a 9-0 blowout over Malcolm X College. The Archers also shut out Greenville University’s junior varsity 8-0 on Thursday.

The Archers (6-1 overall) have seen an offense that has supplied 34 goals in seven games fuel their early hot start. STLCC has scored at least three goals in each of its games. Freshman forwards Dillon Smith and Adam DuToit have led the way offensively for the Archers, scoring eight and five goals, respectively, entering play on Sunday. The 6-1 start is the best for a St. Louis Community College men’s soccer team since STLCC athletics moved to a district-wide department in 2011. The team’s next win would match last year’s total, as the 2014 Archers finished 7-12-2 in Tim Mosby’s first year as head coach.

This year has been markedly different, however, as evidenced by the team’s 34 goals being one more than the Archers compiled all of last year, in addition to  the team’s perfect 3-0 road record. The Archers will return to action Wednesday, when they travel to St. Charles Community College in a Region 16 showdown. The Archers are 1-0 in regional play, having defeated Jefferson College 3-1 on August 27.
