Archers throttle Hesston in home finale

For Archers fans who would be watching STLCC’s men’s soccer team for the final time this year, Tim Mosby’s team certainly left them with a memorable finish.

Behind a career-best four goals from forward Adam DuToit, the Archers rode to a 7-1 blowout victory. The six-goal margin of victory matched the fourth-largest of the season for STLCC, and the team’s seven goals were the third-most in a game this year.

In what has become a repetitive development for the Archers, STLCC provided most of its offense in the second half, as the team carried a 1-0 lead into the half.

DuToit has quietly produced one of the Archers’ best offensive seasons in years, as his four-goal outburst pushed him to 18 goals on the season, second on the team behind Dillon Smith’s 20. The duo has combined to supply a majority of the Archers’ 74 goals for the year.

Smith recorded his 20th in the 67th minute Thursday. Freshmen Copper Carney and Matt Schneider also registered a goal Thursday, each within the game’s final 10 minutes.

The win moved the Archers to 12-4-1 on the season. They will conclude the year with road games at MCC-Blue River, Southwestern Illinois College and Central Methodist’s junior varsity in the next 10 days. STLCC will begin postseason play with the Region XVI quarterfinals on October 24.

News and Notes:

The Archers honored six sophomores prior to Thursday’s home finale—goaltender Victor Tobore, defenders Corey Mikes, Bradley Kochner and Nick Hoeflinger, and midfielders Steven Lilako and Christopher Jiminez.

Mike Duffy’s Bar and Grill Play of the Match:

Thursday’s Duffy’s Play of the Match came in the 72nd minute, when DuToit registered his fourth goal of the game. Thursday was his first career four-goal performance, and he also assisted on Dillon Smith’s goal in the 67th minute.
