STLCC men shut out St. Charles for second time

It didn’t take very long into Tuesday’s home game against St. Charles Community College to see the Archers had put a regional loss to Jefferson College on Sunday far into the rear-view mirror. For the second time in as many meetings against St. Charles, the Archers cruised to a 4-0 victory.

Just two minutes in, Adam DuToit gave the Archers a lead they would never relinquish. STLCC would add two more goals in the first half, one by midfielder Pelius Britto, Jr., and the team-leading 19th of the season for forward Dillon Smith.

“I think the boys were hungry to play today, and it’s always good to be able to get right back out there after a loss,” head coach Tim Mosby said of the Archers’ quick start following the team’s loss on Sunday. “I think it really speaks to the character of this team.”

The shutout victory was the seventh of the year for the Archers (11-4-1), and the third in the team’s last four victories. Nicholas Bertich and Tyler Demoulin combined for the shutout in goal, turning away all five St. Charles shots on goal. With five regular season games, STLCC has guaranteed itself of the first winning season as a district-wide soccer program.

“I think the focus today was on team defense,” Mosby said. “It starts all the way from the forwards to the backs, and I thought we really held our shape well today.”

Mike Duffy’s Sports Bar and Grill Play of the Game

DuToit’s goal in the second minute served as the game-winner, and earned him the inaugural Mike Duffy’s Sports Bar and Grill Play of the Game.

As part of STLCC’s partnership with new sponsor Duffy’s Sports Bar and Grill, the Archers will honor a Duffy’s Play of the Game for each victory.
