In perhaps their most dominant showing in what has already been a memorable 2015 season, the STLCC men’s soccer team turned a 0-0 halftime deadlock against Region XVI foe Crowder College into a 6-0 rout on Saturday.
The six-goal second half began just two minutes into the period, when forward Dillon Smith notched his team-leading 15th goal of the season. The Archers would also receive goals from Casey Bartlett-Scott, Steven Lilako, Corey Mikes, Michael York and Pelius Britto, Jr. The Archers notched a pair of goals on free kicks, and also saw a couple of key scoring opportunities materialize off of corner kicks.
“Every goal counts in regional play,” head coach Tim Mosby said. “When you look at seeding, that can really make a difference, so it was nice to see us do what we were able to do today. We had really worked on our set pieces quite a bit in practice, and we saw it a little bit today.”
The six-goal onslaught meant the Archers outscored opponents by a combined score of 15-0 in their past two games. Nicholas Bertich received the win in goal for the Archers (9-3), playing 70 minutes in net before yielding to Tyler Demoulin with the game’s outcome well in hand.
STLCC will return to action Tuesday, in what will be a key regional matchup at East Central College. East Central won the only previous meeting between the two teams, 2-1 at Florissant Valley. Tuesday will also mark the beginning of a nine-game stretch to conclude the regular season that will included six road games.

-With the win, Mosby’s career record improved to 16-15-2, moving above the .500 plateau for the first time.
-Smith has registered a second-half goal in three consecutive games.
-Five of the Archers’ last six wins have come via a shutout. Saturday was the sixth shutout for STLCC overall this year.
