STLCC Basketball Teams Look to Earn Trips to NJCAA Championships

St. Louis Community College’s men’s and women’s basketball teams will be shooting for district titles and a chance to advance to their respective national tournaments this Saturday.

The Archers (22-8) host Arkansas State Mid-South (15-12) in the District P championship game Saturday. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. at Forest Park. The winner advances to the National Junior College Athletic Association Women’s Division II Championship Tournament March 21-25 in Harrison, Ark. 

In the 79-70 win over North Central Missouri College for the regional title, Ellisha Davis (Belleville East) led STLCC with 18 points. The freshman point guard also dished out four assists and had seven steals. Sophomore guard Shamiah Oliver (Curie/Chicago) added 17 points, hitting five of six 3-pointers. Crishana Wilson (Gateway Academy) scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds. Erika Harvey (Belleville West) came off the bench to score 10 points and pull down six rebounds.

STLCC’s women have captured back-to-back Region XVI championships.
 
The men’s basketball team defeated Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley 74-63 to claim the Region XVI title. The Archers (20-12) will travel to West Memphis, Ark., Saturday to take on Arkansas State-Mid South (20-9) for the District XIII title. The winner advances to the NJCAA Men’s Division II basketball championship March 21-25 in Danville, Ill.
 
In the Region XVI title match, sophomore guard Sean Rigmaiden (North County Tech) led all scorers with 22 points while freshman forward Courtney Barlow (Soldan International) came off the bench to score 13 points. Freshman guard Todd Simms (Soldan International) added 12 points. Miles Nettles, a sophomore guard (Madison Prep), pulled down 13 rebounds.
