The St. Louis Community College men's basketball team placed themselves behind the eight ball for a Region 16 regular season championship Thursday night with their loss at North Central Missouri, but they bounced back in a big way on Saturday afternoon at MCC-Penn Valley, with a 90-78 win. With the win, the Archers forced a three way tie (MCC-Penn Valley and North Central Missouri) for the regular season crown, but still earned a piece of the championship.
In picking up the win, the Archers also avenged an earlier season 81-79 home loss to the Scouts. Sophomores Sean Rigmaiden and DaVante Harrell led the way for the Archers as Rigmaiden scored 25 points and Harrell added 21 points and 8 rebounds, and both of them were 8-8 from the charity stripe. Miles Nettles turned in a solid all-around game as well as he scored 13 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and picked up 2 steals.
The Archers shot 52.5% from the field and 44.4% from behind arc on the afternoon. The Archers improve to 18-12 on the year. STLCC now moves into Region 16 tournament play, as they face North Central Missouri College Thursday night at 8:00 pm in Jefferson City, MO at Lincoln University.
