For the first time in 2015, the Archers can claim a winning streak. Though it took a painstaking, white-knuckle finish, St. Louis Community College’s men’s basketball team won its second consecutive game with a 67-64 victory over Lincoln College.
Sophomore forward Davante Harrell led the Archers with 15 points, one of three players with double figures in scoring.
“Davante has been really consistent for us lately, head coach Terry Collins said. “Davante, Andrew (Weaver) and Nate (Rigmaiden) are all guys who can score. We definitely have enough weapons on this team. That’s never going to be the issue. It really comes down to how well we’re able to defend.”
Despite the victory, Collins sees plenty of room for growth for his young team. The Archers came off of a stout performance in a road win Saturday, but had difficulty replicating the same pace of play at home on Tuesday.
“Saturday’s game was a lot of energy and effort, and we just didn’t see enough of that today, Collins said. “We came off of a great week of practice last week, our best practice of the season. Guys were feisty, just a really great week. We were leaking a bit.”
The Archers (3-8) will need to tighten those leaks by Thursday, when STLCC will see one of its toughest tests of the year against perennial regional power Mineral Area.

With 2:25 remaining in regulation, guard Nate Rigmaiden connected on a three-pointer to give the Archers a five-point lead. Rigmaiden, who did not start after arriving late to the pre-game shootaround, helped key the Archers' rally by matching Harrell's 15 points to lead STLCC. Rigmaiden's late basket ultimately provided STLCC with enough cushion in the game's final minutes to hold off Lincoln College for the team's second straight win.
