Archers stem early-season struggles, battle back for win over Arkansas Mid-South

As St. Louis Community College's outside shooters perform, so does the rest of the Archers men's basketball team.

Sophomore guard Nate Rigmaiden paced the Archers with 31 points, including a 7-for-14 showing from three-point range to guide STLCC to a 90-78 win over Arkansas State Mid-South on Saturday evening. Freshman forward Davante Harrell turned in what was arguably his best game in an Archers uniform, as he registered a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

The win not only ended a seven-game losing streak, but also avenged a previous loss to Mid-South, a 74-67 defeat at STLCC-Forest Park on November 20.

"Obviously, getting a 'w' always helps morale," head coach Terry Collins said. "It gives us the wherewithal to keep working hard. That gets hard when you're not seeing results."

Prior to Saturday, the last positive results for the Archers came in a 91-80 win over Highland Community College on November 13. The two wins mark the only instances this year in which the Archers have reached the 90-point plateau in scoring.

"I guess that's the key, isn't it?" Collins said. "If we score 90, we win. We still have a long way to go in improving defensively, but every win is a big win right now."

The Archers will look to maintain their momentum in one of their more challenging stretches of their schedule, beginning Tuesday night, when they host Lincoln College at 7:30 pm. They will also play at home Thursday night, when they host perennial regional power and conference foe Mineral Area CC at 7 pm.
