Archers head into week-long break after loss to State Fair

The script played out only slightly differently, and the result was familiar for St. Louis Community College’s men’s basketball team in a 74-56 loss at home to State Fair Community College Tuesday evening.

The Archers struggled throughout to maintain defensive pressure on State Fair, which connected on 41 percent of its shots from the field. The Archers have allowed opponents to shoot 40 percent or greater in six of the team’s seven games this year.

STLCC forward Devonte Harrell did his part to keep the Archers in the game, scoring 15 points and grabbing six rebounds before fouling out in the second half. However, the Archers were significantly out-manned in the paint, however, as State Fair’s Clint Robinson tallied 18 points and 12 rebounds in just 20 minutes on the floor.

A week-long break covering Thanksgiving may come at a convenient time for the Archers (1-6), who have allowed 70 or more points in each of their seven games this season, and have struggled to find their identity in the season’s first month.

STLCC will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 1, when they host Washington University’s junior varsity program, the only four-year JV opponent STLCC will see all season, in what was a beefed-up schedule in comparison to recent seasons. The Archers will play four of their next six games at home, after hosting just two of their first six games.
