Archers Open Region Play With Series Win Over Jefferson

The STLCC baseball team won the first two games of the four-game Region XVI series against Jefferson College on Thursday, March 5 by scores of 8-4 and 6-1.  Game three and four took place on Saturday, March 7, with STLCC taking game three 1-0 and dropping game four by a score of 6-3.

 

G1

Blake McPhee got the win on the mound for the Archers in game one, throwing five innings, allowing four funs and striking out three Vikings.  Brian Carruyo got the save in relief, pitching the final two innings and only allowing one hit.  Offensively, the Archers got multi-hit performances from Spencer Keiser (2) and Cesar Soto Lopez (2).  Collecting one RBI each were Lopez, Mitchell Davis, Ivan Quackenbush, Dakoda Grove and Zach KrauseBrendan Noack also hit a two run home run in the win.

G2

The Archers got another strong pitching performance in game two, this time by Mitchell Craft.  Craft lasted six innings, only allowing one run and collecting six strikeouts.  Ricky Martinez threw the final three innings, keeping the Viking bats quiet with four strikeouts.  Dakoda Grove collected three hits and two RBI in the contest.  Also collecting multiple hits were Cesar Soto Lopez (2) and Zach Krause (2).  Spencer Keiser drove in a pair of runs in the win and Soto also drove in one run.

G3

Strong pitching continued to be the trend for STLCC in game three.  Tyler Martin got the win on the mound, lasting six innings, allowing no runs on three hits and struck out six Jefferson hitters.  Brian Carruyo picked up his second save of the series with a clean seventh inning.  Collecting hits in the win for the Archers were Cesar Soto Lopez (2), Thomas Burke (1), and Tyler Ferguson (1).

G4

Defensive miscues were costly for STLCC in game four, leading to a loss in the final game of the series.  Luke Lageman took the loss for the Archers, throwing six innings and only allowing two earned runs.  Ryan Lunsford pitched three shutout innings in relief for STLCC and Matt Blake allowed one run in relief of Lageman.  Offensively, Austin Fleming led the team with two hits.  Collecting on RBI each were Mitchell Davis, Garrison Hibbs, and Samuel Bennett.

With the series win over Jefferson, STLCC improved to 9-7 overall and 3-1 in Region XVI play.  The Archers will be back in action on Tuesday, March 10 at Southwestern Illinois College four a double-header beginning at 1:00pm.
