STLCC Takes 3/4 From SWIC

The STLCC baseball team got back on track by taking three out of four games against Southwestern Illinois College in a series that took place on Saturday, February 22 and Sunday, February 23. 

Game 1 – Saturday, February 22

In the opening game of the series, STLCC used a five run third inning to defeat SWIC by a final of 7-0.  Blake McPhee got the win on the mound for the Archers, pitching six scoreless inning and collecting 11 strikeouts.  Recording multiple hits were Tyler Ferguson (3), Mitchell Davis (2), and Samuel Bennett (2).  Mitchell Davis and Spencer Keiser each drove in two runs for STLCC and Tyler Ferguson, Samuel Bennett, and Dakoda Grove all collected an RBI in the game one win.

 

Game 2 

In game two of the series, the Archers again had their offense rolling.  STLCC threw up crooked numbers in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings and won by a final of 9-1.  At the plate, Zach Krause led the way with two home runs and four RBI.  Cesar Soto Lopez finished with three hits, including a home run and also drove in three runs.  Brendan Noack also collected a pair of RBI on one hit.  Blake Lawson got the win on the mound for STLCC, throwing six scoreless innings and striking out six batters.

 

Game 3 – Sunday, February 23

Game three of the series was tied at two runs until the Archers broke through with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.  That was all STLCC would need, as they would hang on for a 7-2 series clinching win.   The Archers got a strong start from Tyler Martin, who threw six innings and only allowed two runs.  At the plate, Mitchell Davis led the way for STLCC, collecting two hits and driving in three runs.  Dakoda Grove and Boone Gartman also drove in a pair of runs for the Archers and Tyler Ferguson collected two hits. 

 

Game 4 

The Archers were not able to hold on for the series sweep in game four against SWIC.  STLCC held a slim 2-1 lead until the Blue Storm were able to go ahead with a three run sixth inning.  Matt Blake took the loss on the mound for the Archers, throwing 2/3 of an inning and allowing three runs in relief of starter Luke Lageman.  Offensively, Brendan Noack and Cesar Soto Lopez each collected a hit and an RBI for STLCC.

 

By taking three out of four games from SWIC, the Archers improved to 5-4 on the season.  STLCC will return to action on Thursday, February 27 at home vs Harris-Stowe JV. (Weather permitting)
