Baseball Wins Series Against St. Charles, Begins Postseason Friday

The Archers recently won three out of four games against St. Charles CC in their final series of the regular season.

On Thursday, April 25, STLCC split a double-header against St. Charles to begin the series.  In game one, STLCC got a terrific start from Billy Heil on the mound, but could not hold on to a 2-0 lead, falling by a score of 3-2.  Heil lasted 6 innings on the mound, allowing two runs on only two hits.  Simon Desnoyer led the offense in game one with two hits and two RBI.

In game two, the Archers fared much better, picking up a 9-3 win.  Blake Hutchison got the win on the mound for STLCC, lasting 6 innings and allowing three runs on four hits.  Jacob Fleming threw three hitless innings in relief for the Archers, striking out six.  Picking up multiple hits at the plate in game two were Simon Desnoyer, Luis M. Cabrera, Clayton Stephens, and Alex Owens.  Homering in game two for the Archers were Cabrera, Kyle O'Brien, and Stephens. 

On Saturday, April 28, the two teams wrapped up the four game series at Meramec with STLCC winning both games.  It took a dramatic finish in game three for the Archers to nail down the win.  With the game tied 6-6 in the bottom of the seventh inning, McGwire Dean hit a walk-off two run home run.  Nick Wiley started game three on the mound for STLCC, lasting six innings and allowing four earned runs on six hits.  Brian Carruyo picked up the win in relief, pitching two scoreless innings out of the bullpen.  Tony Rask's 4-4 day at the plate paced the STLCC offense.  McGwire Dean and Thomas Burke each had three hits as well.  Clayton Stephens also picked up his eighth home run of the season in the contest.

The Archers were able to finish off the double-header sweep in game four, winning by a score of 12-2.  Jackson Keller picked up the win on the mound for STLCC, lasting five innings and allowing two runs while striking out eight.  Collecting multiple hits in game four for the Archers were Tony Rask and Thomas BurkeMcGwire Dean and Luis M. Cabrera went deep in the game four win. 

By winning three out of four against St. Charles, STLCC finished the regular season at 19-23 and 16-16 in Region XVI play.  The Archers will be the fifth seed in the upcoming Region XVI Sub-Regional Baseball Tournament.  STLCC will travel to Mineral Area College for a best of three series scheduled to be played on Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4.  Should the Archers in the series, they will advance to the Region XVI Baseball Tournament in Joplin, MO.  The Region XVI Baseball Tournament is scheduled for Thursday, May 9 – Saturday, May 11.
