Archers Win Series Against NCMC

The STLCC baseball team is coming off a series win against North Central Missouri College, which was played on Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20. 

In game one, the Archers fell behind the Pirates early and were unable to recover, losing by a score of 11-5.  Blake Hutchison took the loss on the mound for STLCC, lasting five innings.  Clayton Stephens had two hits, including a home run.  Blane Besse also went deep in the loss.

STLCC fared much better in game two, winning by a score of 12-2 in six innings.  Billy Heil collected his second win of the season on the mound, throwing six innings and only allowing two runs while striking out five.  The Archers got multiple hits from Nicholas DeBeer (2), Kyle O'Brien (3), Blane Besse (3), and Luis M. Cabrera (4).  Homering in game two were O'Brien, Stephens, and Cabrera.

The Archers used a four-run seventh inning in game three to collect a dramatic walk-off 7-6 win.  Brian Carruyo picked up the win in relief for STLCC after throwing a scoreless seventh inning in relief.  Collecting multiple hits in the contest were Luis M. Cabrera and Clayton Stephens.  The Archers again got big home runs in the game.  Going deep were Blane Besse, Cabrera, and Thomas Burke.

STLCC clinched the series win by taking game four by a score of 10-2.  The Archers used a five run first inning to get in front of the Pirates and never looked back.  Brian Carruyo picked up his second win of the series in relief, going three and one third innings without giving up a run and striking out three.  Blane Besse went deep again for his third home run of the series.  Collecting multiple hits in game four were Besse, Luis M. Cabrera, and Clayton Stephens.

With the series win against North Central, STLCC improved its overall record to 16-21.  The Archers are now 13-14-1 in Region XVI play with one week remaining before tournament play.  STLCC will be back in action on Thursday, April 25 when they travel to Cottleville, MO to take on St. Charles CC in a double-header beginning at 1:00pm.
