Archers Take 3/4 From Mineral Area

The STLCC baseball team is coming off a series win against Mineral Area College.  The Archers got off to a great start in the series by sweeping the Cardinals on Saturday, April 6 at Meramec. 

In game one, Nick Wiley dominated for 6 innings, not allowing a run and the Archers got a big 2-0 win.  Brian Carruyo got the save in relief and Simon Desnoyer delivered the big blow offensively, driving in a pair of runs in the 5th inning.  

In game two, STLCC got a 7-3 win behind a quality start on the mound from Blake Hutchison.  Hutchison lasted seven innings, allowing only two unearned runs.  Parker Cuddihee threw a scoreless inning in relief and Brian Carruyo finished off the 9th, only allowing one run.  Collecting multiple hits offensively in game two for the Archers were Luis M. Cabrera, Clayton Stephens, and Blane Besse.

On Sunday, April 7, the two teams split the double-header at Mineral Area to wrap up the four game series.  Jackson Keller started game three on the mound for the Archers, lasting six and a third innings and allowing five runs.  Brady McAfee threw one inning in relief, collecting his first win of the season.  Brian Carruyo picked up his second save of the season by going 2/3 of an inning to close the game.  Collecting multiple hits for STLCC were Simon Desnoyer, Kyle O'Brien, and Luis M. Cabrera.  Cabrera also drove in three runs in the contest and the Archers prevailed by a score of 6-5.

The Archers fell to Mineral Area by a score of 10-5 in game four of the series.  Billy Heil took the loss in relief, lasting three innings and surrendering five runs.  Collecting multiple hits in game four for the STLCC were Tony Rask, Luis M. Cabrera, Stone Krogman, and Kyle O'Brien.  O'Brien led the way offenisvely with four driven in, including a three-run home run in the fifth inning.

With the series win, the Archers are now 10-17 overall and 7-12-1 in Region XVI play.  STLCC will be back in action on Thursday, April 11 at home against Three Rivers College.  Game one of the scheduled double-header is set to begin at 1:00pm.
