Baseball Team Goes 1-2 On Opening Weekend

The STLCC baseball team opened their 2019 spring season going 1-2 in Chalmette, LA, splitting a pair of games with Nunez CC and falling to #1 LSU Eunice.

Game 1 - Friday, Feburary 8 - Nunez CC

The Archers got off to a fast start to the season by defeating Nunez CC on Friday by a score of 4-2.  STLCC got a quality start from Nick Wiley, who lasted four innings and allowed only one run on three hits.  Parker Cuddihee got the win in relief for the Archers, going four innings and only allowing one run.  Brian Carruyo earned his first save of the season with a clean ninth inning.  Driving in runs for the Archers were McGwire Dean (1), Tony Rask (1), and Thomas Burke (1).  STLCC got hits from Clayton Stephens, Tony Rask, Blane Tyree, Luis M. Cabrera, and Thomas Burke

Game 2 - Saturday, February 9 - #1 LSU Eunice

STLCC fell in Saturday's game by a score of 10-7 on a walk-off three-run home run in the 9th inning.   Blake Hutchison got the start on the mound for the Archers, going four innings and only allowing one run. McGwire Dean starred at the plate, going two for three with one run and two RBI.  Nicholas DeBeer and Tony Rask collected two hits each, including Rask's first home run of the season.  Brendan Meissner also drove in two runs in the loss.

Game 3 - Sunday, February 10 - Nunez CC

The final game of the weekend was again unkind to the Archers.  STLCC held a 2-1 lead in the ninth inning, but were unable to hold the lead and fell 3-2.  Billy Heil got the start in game three and struck out seven in five innings of work.  Noah Pingel also worked three scoreless innings out of the bullpen.  The Archers got hits from McGwire Dean, Nicholas DeBeer, Kyle O'Brien, Tony Rask, and Luis M. Cabrera in the defeat.  Cabrera also went deep for his first home run of 2019. 

The Archers will be back in action when they travel to Baton Rouge, LA for two games on Saturday, February 16 and two games on Sunday, February 17.  On Saturday, the Archers will play a double-header against Baton Rouge CC and on Sunday, STLCC will again play Banton Rouge CC along with Pearl River CC.
