Archers Baseball Splits at State Fair

Archers baseball braved more frigid temperatures on Thursday afternoon as they traveled to State Fair Community College for a Region 16 and MCCAC doubleheader.  The Archers got out of town with a split as they rallied for eight runs in the top of the 8th inning to pull out the nightcap 13-9 after dropping the opener 10-0.

Game 1

Not much to cheer about for the Archers, as State Fair tallied 2 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning and 4 runs in both the 3rd and 5th innings.  Jack Kane took the loss for the Archers to fall to 1-2 on the year, while Tony Rask collected 2 of the 3 Archers hits.  

Game 2

The Archers found themselves in a 8-5 hole heading into the top of the 8th inning, but answered with 8 runs enroute to earning the split on the day.  Blake Hutchison earned his first career win on the mound by notching 4 strikeouts in two and two-thirds innings of relied.  Austin DesRoche entered the game in the bottom of the eighth inning with the bases loaded and escaped with the lead in tack to pick up his 2nd save of the season.  Offensively Andrew Dupont led the way with 4 hits, including a double, and 3 RBI, while Nick DeBeer also had 4 hits, scored 2 runs and drove in a pair as well.  Clayton Stephens picked up three hits and Jackson Boschert, Rask, Blaine Tyree, Grant Brueggenjohann each had two hits while DesRoche also drove in a pair of runs.
