Archers Sweep St. Charles in Series Opener

The Archers Baseball team opening Region 16 play with a Saturday sweep of St. Charles Community College, winning game 1, 3-2, and taking the nightcap, 9-1.  On the day, Archers pitchers combined to allow only one earned run and allowing only six Cougar hits in the fourteen innings.  

Game 1

Jack Kane took the mound in the series opener and threw six innings, while allowing four hits, punching out five and giving up one earned run before handing the ball over to Austin Desroche for the save in the seventh inning.  DesRoche picked up two strikeouts in the seventh to close the door on the 3-2 win.  Sam Lombard notched two hits and an RBI in the victory, while Grant Brueggenjohann and Nick DeBeer each collected an RBI.  The Archers scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning on singles by Lombard and DeBeer and a sacrifice fly by Brueggenjohann.  

Game 2

Jackson Keller got the call in the second game on the mound for STLCC and responded with five innings pitched, allowing a hit and striking out three to pick up the win.  Lucas Zurliene entered the game in the top of the sixth inning, with the Archers leading 2-1 and did not allow a hit or run to pick up the save.  The Archers were clinging to a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, when the exploded for seven runs to put the game away.  Jackson Boschert picked up two hits, including a bases loaded double in the sixth inning, and three RBI, while scoring two runs from the leadoff spot.  Andrew Dupont and Lombard also collected two hits, including a RBI double from Lombard, who drove in two runs on the day.  

The Archers improve to 5-5 on the year and 2-0 in Region 16 play and return to action on Sunday afternoon with a noon start on the Meramec campus.
